Waterstones Leeds, Albion Street, Leeds, LS1, May 5, 2022 6:30 pm

The author of Waterstones Thriller of the Month The Khan comes to Albion Street to talk about her brilliant thriller.
Jia Khan, is a young successful London barrister who is estranged from her family. When her sister begs her to return to her hometown in the North for her wedding, Jia reluctantly agrees. While she’s there, her brother is kidnapped and her father is murdered, and Jia finds herself drawn back into her past life, and the Jirga, the criminal network her father ruled over. It soon turns out that she is the only person in the family strong enough to revenge his death and take control of the family business.
Saima Mir was born in Bradford and worked as a young journalist there, covering crime stories for the Telegraph & Argus. She wanted to portray a different kind of Muslim woman from the traditional, submissive stereotype and in Jia Khan she has a compelling, driven, powerful character, who is utterly fascinating.
As well as having a strong feminist angle, the book is a brilliant exploration of the themes of family loyalty, identity and the generational divide.
