Syd Moore’s new series of novels explore witches, Essex Girls and magic. The first, Strange Magic, reveals the story of Essex woman, Ursula Kemp, accused of being a witch and imprisoned in Colchester castle. Syd is the author of two previous mystery books, The Drowning Pool and Witch Hunt and was presenter of Channel 4’s book programme, Pulp.

Rosie Strange doesn’t believe in ghosts or witches or magic. When she inherits the ramshackle Essex Witch Museum, her first thought is to take the money and run. Still, the museum exerts a curious pull over Rosie. Finding herself embroiled in a peculiar centuries-old mystery, Rosie is quickly expelled from her comfort zone, where the secrets of the past come with real danger as a strange magic threatens to envelope them all.

This event is part of Essex Book Festival’s Place Weekend in Colchester on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 March
