An American Marriage wins the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019.

The announcement was made last night (5th June) in Bedford Square Gardens, London, by chair of judges Professor Kate Williams.

In her acceptance speech, Tayari said: ‘We need women’s voices now more than ever . . . Please keep in your hearts the people who are incarcerated, whenever someone is imprisoned it is done so in our names. Every time someone is incarcerated, it represents a family separated.’
