Martin Bell – Open House Festival [SOLD OUT]

16th July, 2018

From Vietnam to Iraq via Belfast, Martin Bell OBE, one of the outstanding journalists of our time, has seen first-hand how war has changed over the last fifty years – neither fought nor reported the way it used to be.
In his latest book, War and the Death of News, From Battlefield to Newsroom – My Fifty Years in Journalism, the man in the white suit provides a moving account of all he has witnessed throughout his career, covering foreign assignments in more than ninety countries and reporting on eleven wars. As modern news increasingly seeks to entertain first and inform second, he believes it is time to put the substance back into reporting.
Martin will be reading from the book and talking to BBC NI political correspondent Stephen Walker about his experiences as a solider, a war reporter and an MP – throwing in a story or two of his time here in Northern Ireland.
*War and the Death of News is available at Eason, Bangor, with an exclusive £2 Festival discount
