Frankenstein in Baghdad – SOAS

15th May, 2018

SOAS invites you to an evening with Ahmed Saadawi, author of Frankenstein in Baghdad (winner of the 2014 International Prize for Arabic Fiction) and Jonathan Wright, translator of the English edition (shortlisted for the 2018 Man Booker International Prize).

A disturbing exploration of the human condition when faced with relentless waves of violence in post-2003 Iraq, Frankenstein in Baghdad has been described as ‘a significant addition to contemporary Arabic fiction’ (Judges, International Prize for Arabic Fiction), ‘Painful and powerful’ (Hassan Blasim), and ‘Gripping, darkly humorous…profound’ (Phil Klay). It is a novel that exposes the extremities of war and human resilience.

Join us for an evening of readings in Arabic and English, conversation and questions with Professor Wen-chin Ouyang (SOAS) and Annie Webster (SOAS).

Copies of the novel will be on sale at the event.

Tickets are free but places are limited. Please register to reserve your place.
